Hey songbirds, and welcome to Caitlin’s Corner! It is March, which means it is time for a new article. Well, this time I am bringing back what I had done in a past article, which is list songs that have lyrics on the topic of birds. I love music, having composed a few songs myself, so I really enjoyed writing this article for you all! Now, here are ten songs that I find super cool:

1. “I’m Like a Bird” by Nelly Furtado: Nelly Furtado is like a bird in this catchy song. I remember listening to this piece on the radio when I was younger and swaying along to the happy/sad (you know what I mean, right?) melody. This song is one of her most popular songs, and there is no doubt on why! But you will just have to listen to it yourself to experience the magic. “I’m like a bird / I’ll only fly away / I don’t know where my soul is (soul is) / I don’t know where my home is.”

2. “Surfin’ Bird” by The Trashmen: Excuse me a moment while I go laugh my head off. I love this song because it is so silly, and even though you might be too busy thinking what is going on??? and laughing, it will still get stuck in your head for the rest of the day! It is quite a change from “I’m Like a Bird”, but just as awesome! “A-well-a, everybody’s heard about the bird / Bird, bird, bird, b-bird’s the word.”

3. “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley & The Wailers: People, this is a classic! It is a mellow, beachy type of tune. Three birds come to them in the morning saying that everything was going to be great that day, which is just the message we all need. If that sounds up your alley, or even if it doesn’t, go check it out (but after you finish reading the article, silly)! “Three little birds / Each by my doorstep / Singin’ sweet songs.”

4. “Up With the Birds” by Coldplay: Do you really expect me not to add a Coldplay song to this list? Their songs are really great, especially some of their older tunes. This one comes from their Mylo Xyloto album. I like how this song has a darker feeling with the instrumental, and then it shifts to more upbeat. “My arms turn wings / Oh those clumsy things / Send me up to that wonderful world / And then I’m up with the birds.”

5. “Little Bird (Bonus Track)” by Ed Sheeran: I believe this song is golden! It has an upbeat, sweet tune. Ed Sheeran usually doesn’t disappoint, and especially does not with this song! “If we take this bird in / With its broken leg / We could nurse it.”

6. “Rockin’ Robin” by Bobby Day: This song just makes me want to get up and dance! This was a popular song back in the day, and still is today for it’s awesome tune, tweets and all. Just go listen and you will understand why I sing this one a lot. “Every little swallow, every chick-a-dee / Every little bird in the tall oak tree / The wise old owl, the big black crow / Flappin’ their wings singing go bird go.”

7. “Blackbird” by The Beatles: The Beatles are an obvious choice since they do have the song “Blackbird”! Even the Glee Cast covered this one! I like the soft guitar in the background the vocals in this song; it gives just the right feeling that the listener needs. “Blackbird singing in the bead of night / Take these broken wings and learn to fly / All your life / You were only waiting for this moment to arise.”

8. “Zip- A- Dee-Doo-Dah (From ‘Song of the South’)” by James Baskett: There was a bluebird on James Baskett’s shoulder when he sang this song for Disney’s “Song of the South”. I knew this song at a young age after watching a Disney park video, and it from then on had been a favorite, uplifting song! Whenever I hear it, I know I am going to have a great day! “Mr. Bluebird’s on my shoulder / It’s the truth / Its actual / And everything is satisfactual”

9. “The Duck Song” by Bryant Oden: Hey! Got any grapes?! No? All right…sorry I even asked. Anyway, this is a really catchy song, and the video for it is really funny, too! This came out when I was in fourth grade I believe, and I still remember everyone singing it because it is ridiculously cool! Now you can enjoy it along with me. “A duck walked up to a lemonade stand / And he said to the man, running the stand / ‘Hey! (Bum bum bum) Got any grapes?’”

10. “Nightingale” by Demi Lovato: I’m bringing this song back from when I did an article like this last time, but I didn’t have choice because it is truly an amazing hit by my favorite artist. This is off her most recent album, Demi. It a is powerful, yet sweet ballad, which is why I like it so much and is constantly on repeat on my phone! “I never see the forest for the trees / I could really use your melody / Baby I’m a little blind / I think it’s time for you to find me.”
…now go! Be free! Fly to the nearest place you can look up all ten of these songs (because I know you are dying to right now) and do so! See you next time on Caitlin’s Corner, but until then, enjoy this candy for your ears.
