Experience: Welcome

The Cornell Lab Publishing Group

Through this publishing company, I really began to understand what the community and industry is like. I organized reviews for publicity, processed and shipped books from eCommerce orders, entered and verified store database information, conducted holiday and occasion research, edited manuscripts, read selected kids/teen manuscript submissions, and worked the booth at the American Library Association 2016 Conference.

Experience: About

The Wild Bird Club: Caitlin's Corner

My flight began in 2013 when I submitted an original poem called “The Eagle” to the Cornell Lab’s new family website, The Wild Bird Club. The editorial staff liked and published it in a feature article on wild eagles. Two months later, they asked if I would be interested in submitting ideas for their Art of Birding section, geared toward kids and teens. They admired my work and took me “under their wing.” Articles that I wrote featured birds in art, literature, sports, humor, mythology, and pop culture. By the second year, they named the column Caitlin’s Corner. My last article was for May 2017, as the Cornell Lab sold the website to its sponsor, Pennington, and the website has been since taken down. This experience was an amazing opportunity for me to both publish at a young age and inspire young birders to think artistically in addition to scientifically.
