Hey everyone, and welcome to Caitlin’s Corner! Planning on getting a pet bird or having one and not knowing what to name it? I got you covered! This month, I will provide a list of 15 awesome bird names:

Color or other:

1. Pepper: If your bird is speckled with black or brown no matter the main feather color, then this one is perfect! I can imagine a cute bouncing bird for this name.

2. Kiwi: Kiwi is cute even if your bird is not a kiwi bird. If your bird has some green color or is brown, then it would work out nicely!

3. Shadow: Is your bird dark and/or seems mysterious? Shadow is a great name for really any animal, but especially if it is a large, dark bird that casts a shadow.

4. Nimbus: Nimbus is connected to cloud, so it reminds me a bit of the last name, Shadow. Birds fly up towards the clouds and so this name gives your pet bird a sense of freedom and nature. It is especially fitting if your bird is white or gray.

5. Jet: Have a bird of a blue color? Jet sounds like a very cool name connected to the skies.

Song:

6. Melody: For some reason I used to be obsessed with this name when I was younger. It is a cool name for a pet bird with a beautiful song!

Pop Culture:

7. Rio: Rio is a movie with a bird name Blu, but also is a place. If your bird looks tropical, this would be a great name!

8. Tweety: Planning on getting a canary? Tweety is the loveable fictional character from Looney Tunes. Be careful if you have a cat named Sylvester!

9. Captain Jack: I think this is a pretty clever one! You could call the bird “Jack” or “Captain” for short, but this is referencing Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.

10. Flappy: Remember that really annoying gaming app, Flappy Bird? Does your bird keep knocking into the polls of his or her birdcage? Whelp, here you go!

11. Polly: Polly wanna cracker? It would be funny to name your bird Polly, especially if it is a parrot, after the saying!

Mythology:

12. Apollo: I find it cool to name your pet bird after a mythological god, goddess, or hero! It gives the bird a strength and royalty about him or her.

13. Phoenix: Does your pet bird stand out from the rest? Why not give him a powerful name as if he rose from the ashes?

14. Rhiannon: This is one of my favorites because this is the name of a Welsh goddess of birds. On top of that, it is a very pretty name for a female bird!

15. Echo: Do you know the story of Echo? The mythological legend is a great one that I recommend looking into! This name can also connect to song if your bird has a voice that seems to fill the room.

I hope this list of names for pet birds helped give you a few ideas! See you next month!
